Netlify Extension: Integration Guide
Prerender for Netlify provides a turnkey extension that brings Prerender.io’s full-featured prerendering platform into the Netlify ecosystem.
Before getting started, please make sure you have an account with us, as you will need an API token for the integration. If you do not have an account yet, you can register for one here.
Install Prerender extension on Netlify
- In the Netlify UI, go to Extensions
- Find “Prerender.io Extension” and click Install Extension.

-
Choose the site you want to enable and confirm installation. At install time the extension is added to the selected site and three controls become available:
– Disable Extension (global)
– Enable Prerendering (per-site)
– Prerender API Token input field
*For more details about the Disable Extension and Enable Prerendering controls, see the Controls section below.
-
Choose a Prerender plan and sign up to access your dashboard and retrieve your API token:
Prerender Dashboard → Security & Access → Prerender Token (API Token).
-
Add your Prerender token to the Netlify extension settings Prerender API Token input field mentioned in step 3.
Controls on Netlify Dashboard
-
Disable Extension (red button)
Function: turns off the entire extension for the site in Netlify. Use this when you want to remove Prerender functionality globally for that site. -
Enable Prerendering for this Site (checkbox)
Function: toggles Prerender.io’s service for the site while the extension remains installed. This is the per-site runtime toggle that activates or deactivates Prerender behavior. Be explicit about both controls in the UI copy so admins don’t confuse disabling the extension with turning off rendering.
More finetuning and control is available on your personal Prerender Dashboard.
