Multi-factor Authentication (2FA)

Add an extra layer of security to your Prerender account with two-factor authentication.

Overview

Multi-factor authentication (2FA) helps protect your Prerender account from unauthorized access by requiring a second form of verification—typically a time-based code from an authentication app—in addition to your regular password. This security feature is especially important for users managing sensitive site data, SEO configurations, or API keys. Enabling 2FA is a simple but highly effective way to safeguard your account from potential breaches.

How It Works

When 2FA is enabled, you must enter both your password and a time-sensitive code generated by an authentication app (such as Google Authenticator or FreeOTP) to log in.

How It Enhances Security:

  • Prevents unauthorized access even if your password is compromised.

  • Reduces risk of phishing and brute-force attacks by requiring an additional factor only available to you.

  • Ensures critical actions (like API management or domain configuration) are only performed by verified users.

Supported Authenticator Apps:

  • Google Authenticator (Android/iOS)

  • FreeOTP

  • Any app supporting TOTP (Time-based One-Time Passwords)

Common Pitfalls / Tips

  • Use a strong, unique password in addition to 2FA. Password reuse still poses a risk.

  • Backup your recovery codes or set up backup methods—losing access to your phone could lock you out.

  • 2FA is enabled per user account, not per team—make sure all team members set it up individually.

  • Don’t delete your authenticator app without disabling 2FA or transferring the account first.
